Who is she? Andrea is a lover of all things food and drink, and the people and the story behind them. Her sense of taste and smell are two of the most important things to her. She lives for culture that has great food, interesting wine, satisfying beer and sumptuous coffee. And she currently resides in the beautiful coastal European country of Portugal that possesses all of these things!
A graduate from The Culinary Institute of America as well as a former Senior Tour Guide and Concierge from there, Andrea has worked virtually every kitchen/service position in the hotel/restaurant industry since she was 15, throughout the Washington DC area, Hudson Valley, New York and Miami, Florida. Along with holding an Introductory Certificate from The Court of Master Sommeliers, Andrea has a passion for food and wine, especially Portuguese, and a passion for foreign languages. It was these passions that made her decide to move to Portugal to explore and learn more about their delicious food and drink.
Andrea became a contributing writer for the Iberian Wine & Food blog Catavino, where she has been researching and writing about Portuguese wine, food & travel through her experiences for the last five years. Along with her work with Catavino, she was a contributing writer for the 9th Edition of Fodor’s Portugal guidebook. She has also been featured on the Lisbon episode of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods and first showcased her love of Portuguese cuisine on HGTV’s House Hunters International. From these experiences, she has acquired extensive knowledge of tourism locations and businesses throughout the greater Lisbon & surrounding areas.
Andrea currently writes for Catavino about Portuguese wine, food and travel as well as on her own blog: An American In Portugal
